Gifts and giving

We encourage every church member to use whatever natural and spiritual gifts God has given them in His service. For some this will be expressed in their workplace, or through other avenues of Christian service, but for many it will mean using their gifts within the church. If you have a feeling God has equipped you with something to help DGBC do God’s work, don’t hide it – talk to someone!

You may be wondering about financial giving. An offering is normally taken up during one of the songs in the Sunday service. This is an opportunity for people who consider DGBC to be their home church to give to the church’s work in Dedworth, the UK (through our links with the Baptist Union) and around the world (through various missionary links). We do not expect first timers and visitors to give anything at all to our church. Please just pass the basket along when it comes to you. You’ll find that the majority of people do the same thing, often because they give in other ways, for example, having set up a monthly direct debit (see below).

It costs around £60,000 – £70,000 per year to run DGBC and all its activities serving the church, networks, and local communities as well as to maintain our giving to God’s mission around the world. The majority is funded by donations from people who consider DGBC to be their home church. The most efficient means of giving is by setting up a standing order through a bank or building society. This helps us with effective financial planning and if the giver is a UK tax payer, the money can be Gift Aided which in most cases allows us to claim an additional percentage from the tax paid.
